In the Beginning.....
Approaching its fifth year of existence the Augusta County Genealogical Society was established as a means for which people with ancestors in Augusta County could easily exchange information and ideas. This has been accomplished by monthly meetings, a newsletter and more recently reference publications. Among the groups endeavors have included the recording of cemeteries and graveyards in the county, collecting obituaries from area newspapers and tracking down old church records. Membership in the society has grown steadily. Initially a group of three ambitous genealogists, it now has a membership of several hundred all across the United States. Our biggest accomplishement so far has been the publication of the Augusta County Heritage Book 1748 to Present. Unfortunately it is out of print.
